    Description

Oxoid™ Bile Aesculin Agar (500g) CM0888B is a selective and differential medium used for the isolation and identification of Enterococcus species and group D Streptococcus from clinical, food, and environmental samples. The medium contains bile salts to inhibit the growth of non-enterococcal organisms and aesculin, which reacts with Enterococcus species, producing a characteristic blackened reaction in the presence of bile.

    Key Features:

    • Form: Dehydrated powder
    • Weight: 500g
    • Application: Isolation and identification of Enterococcus species and group D Streptococcus
    • Composition: Contains bile salts to inhibit Gram-positive bacteria other than Enterococcus and group D Streptococcus, aesculin as a differential agent, and ferric citrate to detect the reaction of aesculin hydrolysis
    • Preparation: Suspend 48g in 1 litre of distilled water, mix thoroughly, and autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes
    • Yield: Approximately 10 litres of prepared medium
